Glass Coverage on Auto Insurance Policies
Generally, an auto policy covers the windshield on your car if you have “full coverage” on the vehicle. Full coverage means that you have comprehensive coverage, which includes physical damage to the car not caused by an accident. Use of the comprehensive coverage is subject to a deductible; however, if the windshield can be repaired instead of replaced, the deductible does not usually apply.
If the windshield is broken and needs to be replaced, the deductible for the comprehensive coverage applies.
If you do not have comprehensive coverage, you have no glass coverage.
Some higher end policies will allow you to obtain special glass coverage so that any repair or replacement is covered with no deductible. MetLife and Travelers both provide this coverage. We can quote you this auto coverage.
It is good to know that you should make sure that you can get a new windshield with your insurance. I wouldn’t have thought about checking the list of the deductible. That does seem like a good thing to be aware when you need a new windshield.
